Ding-dong

January 21st, 2010 Daria No comments

Turns out Versace is going to launch its mobile phone on the basis of ModeLabs – a French company which produces phones for Dior and Tag Heuer. Point taken – Versace wants to broaden its product range to almost everything that can be considered as luxury or fashion.

VERSACE_hk_600

But here comes the disappointment. None of the phones produced by fashion houses together with mobile manufacturers can be considered as luxury or fashion. There’s just a brand name working out for these phones. Ok, let’s be honest, some of the such-named fashion phones have pretty designs but technically they are some years far from what is considered a modern phone nowadays. So why to produce an oldie one? And speaking about design I do remember Nokia 7270 phone in official Versace design which was a bit too much of Versace. Golden prints and medouse.. Who needs this on the phone?!

If fashion phone is technically approved it looks awful, simple awful, as last Giorgio Armani phone. To make money  is the only reason why those phones are produced. But may be at the point when fashion houses decide that they need to launch a mobile phone they need to have sort of respect and thinking about their permanent customer? Does Mr. Giorgio Armani really believes that the one who purchases his dresses and bags will want that phone? Do Dolce&Gabbana think that if I do have plenty of their really gorgeous clothes I will buy this silly Jalou phone? Am I supposed to be a 5 year old mentally? I don’t think so.

So, hopefully Versace phone will be a whole different story, but I have my doubts there. Fingers crossed.

Versace shoes: let it be a mess?

December 10th, 2009 Daria No comments

When I first saw Versace Spring-Summer 2010 platform shoes I was excited about them as of an exmaple of sexy, trendy, bright shoes that can be an expression of one’s independent style. Unfortunately runway pictures don’t always show the real picture of a thing and you almost never know what those be in reality.

4-versace1-2

This is the case of Versace platforms. In reality they don’t seem pretty. High platform looks too hard and unconducted to the rest of the shoe. It’s like the platform has its own living and by no reason was fixed to the shoe. Imagine those greens without a platform. Nice, isn’t it? Truthfully, these greens is the only model I supposedly will wear for the reason of the most beautiful combination of colours for spring. Bored with black and marron…

An attempt to make some designed graphic shoes is not always successfull, especially when a designer does not have any idea of graphics which is an exact example of Donatella, with all my passion and love to the house of Versace.

Platform shoes are very popular and obviously every designer has made at least one pair of platform heels. Turns out Donatella made lots of them and at some point they start too be neither sophisticated or sexy.

How they did forget Versace

Gianni celebrated their success and congratulated them.

But now they have forgot him.

Such observations become a big dissapontment. When you realize that even beautiful world of fashion can be disrespectdul to those who made a lot to the world of fashion, you’re afraid of what is going on to fashion.

I still do believe that there are people who do really love fashion and who will never forget genius of Gianni Versace.

Happy Birthday, Gianni!

December 2nd, 2009 Daria No comments

He would turn 63 today, and obviously it would be a fabulous celebration full of celebrity guests coming on fancy cars and drinking champagne. Gianni Versace left too early and hadn’t done everything he could. During 20 years in fashion he became the imperor of the italian fashion and not only the italian. He was one of the most powerful designers of the 20th century and he still is.

I think that many people will share my love and respect to this outstanding man.

Happy Birthday, Gianni!

Alice: how we stop to wonder

November 24th, 2009 Daria No comments

Alice in Wonderland is one of the top fairy-tales themes often used by fashion photographers. This time I ran into Frauke Fischer “Alice im Wunder-Land” shoot for Diva magazine.

Frauke Fischer for DIVA 01

It’s bright and vivid but honestly it seems that photographer doesn’t realize the whole idea replacing magic miracles with huge trains and that’s it.

Maybe I sound a bit sceptical, but anyone who saw Annie Leibovitz shoot “Alice in Wonderland” for Vogue in 2003 will totally agree with me. No offence to Ida and she’s obviously not blamed for anything, but Natalia Vodianova in Alice shoot looks more like Alice than Ida does.

The fact of famous designers playing other Lewis Caroll characters (Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor&Rolf, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Olivier Theyskens, Marc Jacobs, Christian Lacroix, Donatella Versace, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Helmut Lang, Stephen Jones, Tom Ford) in Leibovitz shoot makes some benefit although the main point is to create an atmosphere which Leibovitz is unarguable master making of (refering to Louis Vuitton AD camapign, etc.).

The Wonderland atmosphere is so special for millions of girls who are already grown-ups and read fashion magazines that photographers and editors often take it to their editorials, but obviously as we become grown-ups most of us don’t catch the idea of magic anymore and Wonderland creation is possible for most creative of us.

Designer’s outfit for Coca-Cola

September 28th, 2009 Daria 2 comments

To support the victims of the earthquake in Abruzzo (Italy) Coca-Cola is collaborating with 8 italian fashion designersDonatella Versace, Alberta Ferretti, Anna Molinari for Blumarine, Veronica Etro, Silvia Venturini for Fendi, Consuelo Castiglioni for Marni, Angela Missoni and Rossella Jardini for Moschino. Everyone of these great women has created a fabulous bottle design for Coca-Cola light.

You can easily fint out which one is Versace, Fendi, Etro, etc. Designers took famous motives of their brands to make a beautiful bottle.

Coca-Cola is always trying to make something special for holidays and different special events such as sport world cups, but such a collaboration as it takes part is more exiting for me. I remeber last year when Roberto Cavalli designed the bottle for Diet Coke in Italy and then Ashley Isham made the design for Coca-Cola light cans in Singapore, and Patricia Field with her City collection of Coco-Cola Diet bottles. It was fun.

Before I was not sure that it is an actual art, but now I know that it is an actual contemporary art. So now I’m going to collect these bottles.

Look, blooming Blumarine design and famous Versace jellyfish-symbol or ETRO ornament  and Alberta Ferreti caramel wavy style.

In fact Coca-Cola will earn a lot of money from selling designer bottles, hopefully it will reach its aim. While I’m hoping we can buy these bottles in other countries. Unfortunately, there will be only few shops chosen to sell them worldwide.

Watch the video, it is unique and lovely.

September 16th, 2009 Daria No comments

Everybody was intrigued about new season: what they do, whom they date, where they go. My question was what do they wear? As the first seria poped out we can definately say there is a lot about costumes going on this new third season of Gossip Girl.

First, when you see the promo picture Versace and Elie Saab dresses can not catch your eye.

First minutes of the first seria show how much fashion there would be starting with Missoni dress on Jenny and then Alice+Olivia Terry Halter dress with belt on Blair.

Take a deep breath and here is Serena in the amazing colourful blazer with little black dress and Chanel 2.55 bag (very classy for Serena). Later on she will appear in perfectly fitting Marchesa dresses.

Blake Lively Gossip-girl-season3-2

Blair staying her own style will appear in a golden Burberry Belted Brocade dress with Alexis Bittar flower-pin meeting Chuck in his once again perfect suit from Brooks Brothers and Tiffany pin. She will keep her style in hats and headbands as well.

It seems that everybody but Vanessa has changed. That’s not totally true. She stayed in her eclectic bright-colours style, but  gave it a total new way of grown-up woman by putting on the real jewellery and designer things.

Waiting for next series!

Underwear genius

September 5th, 2009 Daria No comments

There are very few designers even in fashion who are tend to be those genius who change the world of fashion in their own way. The way that stays for many years after them to be copied and inspired by. Though some of them pass by and public forgets them, but fashion does not. Such people create something without what contemporary fashion would be unbelievable.

Such a genius was an american designer Rudy Gernreich. Most of people haven’t heard about him, but it was he who created that underwear women are wearing today. He created the “No-Bra bra” without metallic parts and heavy details in 1972, you could even put it on through head. Thanks to him we also have lace-underwear today.

But his first scandal fashion innovation was the topless bathing suit – monokini, created in 1964.

Nancy White form Harper’s Bazaar was the one who asked him to create this procative suit and she was the one who refused to put it into the magazine after. There were no magazines that could print naked pictures, some of them later printed the back picture of a model in this suit. But in fact, it was the example when fashion-critics don’t decide anything. Public loved Gernreich’s creation and women started to wear it.

Few years later Rudy designed pubikini – the bathing suit with the opening space for intimate woman’s hair, which should be died to the color of the bathing suit. Such an invention couldn’t find public’s sympathy and was even ridiculed.

At the end of 1990’s Tom Ford was inspired by Gernreich’s designs to create sexy advertisings for Gucci. There were even Versace, Gaultier and Dolce&Gabbana who have been inspired by his porno-chic inventions in fashion. It became the whole influence in late 1990’s fashion known as “porno-chic“.

We are no any longer surprised by stretch-clothes, though in sixties it was a real sensation started by Rudy. Even less we are surprised by sexy outfits opening the breast.

In recent shoot for Allure magazine Fergie tried on famous Rudy’s monokini.

In modern magazines this doesn’t seem shaming, stylists put more sex to the looks of pop-stars. Who knows, maybe It’s time for iconic designs to return.

Gianni’s Little Princess

September 5th, 2009 Daria No comments

She said to be one of the richest and the most fashionable girls in Italy. Her name is Allegra Beck Versace. This year she turns 23 and she already has decisive influence at the fashion house of Versace.

It was Gianni’s last will that 50% of the house goes to Allegra. He called her ‘little princess’ and as a real princess she has got all the treasures. Allegra could enjoy everything from her 18th birthday in 2004. Her fortune is estimated as $700 millions. It seems to me that she has got more that that. She has got the understanding of being the one nice loved by her uncle. Gianni Versace loved Allegra more than any one else and spent many days with her playing, shopping, etc. As any genius Gianni had a right for some weaknesses, so his weakness was his love to Allegra but not his other three nephews.
She was always at the camera since the day of her birth. But there’s appeared more preassure as she became the head of Versace. Trying to be the best in everything, even her appearance (although she’s pretty enough) she went through anorexia and lots of other stresses. Now she looks perfect as she has to, being one of Versace. You can look at Donatella and understand the pressure!

Allegra holds everything in her hands and listen her inside voice and Donatella but not in all the cases.

Fashion house of Versace is a great success of this strong italian family. It’s seen that the years of Gianni’s care about Allegra were not wasted and that she’s learned much from her uncle.

Success of Versace brand depends on Gianni’s ‘little princess’. The hope is that she won’t consider such stakes as another uncle’s play. But there’s no need to worry. Gianni was the one who had chosen Allegra and that means this ‘little princess’ has not only a big fortune.

12 years without Versace

July 15th, 2009 Daria No comments

Today is 12 year anniversary of the tragical Gianni Versace’s death.

Gianni Versace is one of the greatest designers of 20th century and he is one of my favourite . His fashion-art continues to live by the means of Donatella Versace and her creations for the brand, still the most valuable for me are those things made by Versace himself. It’s such an excitement to look for them in vintage shops or on Portabello Road. His fabulous designs are priceless bacause they will always remind of one genius who left the world without saying “good bye”.

Gianni’s fashion has turned the world of style. His ideas still remain sexiest and fashion will never forget him, because to some extent the 20th century fashion is ought to him.
