What lies beneath Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2010 AD campaign

January 29th, 2010 Daria No comments

This video presents Marc Jacobs’s and Louis Vuitton company’s vision on what Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2010 AD campaign is. What emotions and attitude to things lies in there, what Marc wanted this whole imagine to be.

The thing is that I don’t know so many people who were impressed by this supposedly glamorous campaign. Many people really think that grass and doves remind of garbage and the the whole view is a bit dirty, so it doesn’t actually say about fresh, young things right a way. I like Lara Stone though, she is stunning and she by herself in front of the white wall would sell clothes, so who cares about the place where she lies.

The campaign may be not so fabulous as Louis Vuitton company together with Steven Meisel think, but it takes a lot to make such a campaign. I do realize that a huge job has been done by many professionals to create those images. I do respect Path and Marc and Steven because these guys really stand out from the fashion crowd. But as much as I do respect them I do want to see something amazing from LV, especially when I think about their Core Values campaigns.

Too much of Louis Vuitton

December 20th, 2009 Daria 2 comments

I doubt that if the founder of the world most popular fashion house was still living he was impressed by what his successors are doing. Countless collaborations with Murakami, Marc Jacobs who is definately becoming way to crazy and some other stuff that just pieces off. Of course, when we speak about fashion markets we can’t count on Asia, but look at other brands such as Chanel, which makes its Asian invasion wisely and without pushing. Plush toys and ridiculous paintings! Come on, even the Japanese don’t need that anymore. What all fashionable people do really need is a sophistication and a notice of even little beauty in what famous brands are doing today.

Why do I need to even talk about such unprecious things? Well, I saw a picture today, that just showed me once again how far does LV with all its crazy collaborations go. May be at some point they really do need to stop and continue making their classy things as travel tranks.

You really need to be stupid enough to sleep in such a bedroom. But if it was made even for an exhibition they might think that there are such people who’d like to have such a bedroom. Oh, what am I thinking about? Of course there are such people! And that’s a pitty not even for modern fashion, but for a modern society.

Her Lagerfeld’s Majesty Lara

December 2nd, 2009 Daria No comments

Karl Lagerfeld always chooses the models himself. His models are never chosen by their popularity, they’re chosen by charm that only Karl can see. Of course Karl’s models always become famous afterall and what else can you expect? Karl has never made the wrong choice.

larastoneroomservice

Some days ago I wondered whether Lara Stone can be as popular as for example Lagerfeld’s beloved Claudia while Claudia is still in fashion. I stand on my point that sha can’t but it’s quite  obvious that Karl makes everything he can to make Lara the real star. Karl’s shootings with her are amazing. Look at the shooting for Numero magazine.

Actually it works out she is not only Karl’s model anymore, she’s also the new face for Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer  2010 AD campaign.

Louis Vuitton winter garden

November 30th, 2009 Daria No comments

Saks 5th Avenue in New York displays Louis Vuitton winter garden to promote Cruise 2010 collection.

Isn’t it absurd? Certainly with winter cold we want to be back to spring again and see blooming flowers but as even Christmas hasn’t knocked to the door yet it’s a bit early. Even if I’m on my way to islands on winter holidays I prefer to feel the time and enjoy winter displays as long as I can.

Nor that those displays aren’t fabulous they are as almost everything created by the house of Louis Vuitton, but fashion is becoming way too fast in changing seasons.

Louis Vuitton creative cases

November 4th, 2009 Daria No comments

Louis Vuitton cases can be considered as something useless by the mass audience, while in fact they are real masterpieces of crafsmenship and creativity.

This time the house of Louis Vuitton asked six personalities: the designer Marc Jacobs, the photographer Annie Leibovitz, the chef du El Bulli restaurant Ferran Adrià, the artist Damien Hirst, the musician and composer Gustavo Santaolalla, and Patrick-Louis Vuitton, the head of Louis Vuitton’s Special Orders department, to design the piece that embodies their savoir-faire.

Louis Vuitton will celebrate “l’Excellence du Savoir-Faire”, by partnering with some of today’s iconic figures who themselves possess a rare expertise. This collection is demonstration not only of talent and creativity but also of production secrets that for many years have been Louis Vuitton’s distinctive feature.

Mark is confused

October 14th, 2009 Daria 2 comments

Usually I’m not critisizing Marc Jacobs and his collections for Louis Vuitton and his own brand. Strange, but being great about Marc Jacobs collection I’m awfully surprised by Louis Vuitton collection. Whatever the idea is, but those shoes look not Louis Vuitton at all, actually, my granny had one of such a kind when I was little.

UGG is such a big influence these days so almost every designer wants to create something similar, but common, not for Spring! Even UGGs with Swarovski crystalls are better.

Bags are great! Truthfully, it is the only element of spring-summer 2010 Louis Vuitton collection to be impressed by.

Maybe Bernard Arnault has influenced marc in a way to create things for popular markets such as Japan. But what about others who is not that into pink and screemin green colours?!

Play it, André

September 27th, 2009 Daria No comments

These are the shots from The September Issue film about american Vogue. The editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley is famous for his passion to Louis Vuitton, proved by the film. Almost everything in his accessories is Louis Vuitton, even at his tennis court – towel, cap, case, racket-case and case for tennis balls, etc.

Isn’t it too much?

It seems Andre doesn’t spend a day without Louis, I clearly remeber his fabulous case with his name on it in Sex and the City: The movie.

Hat over head

September 22nd, 2009 Daria No comments

In a longtime history of fashion (I mean fashion not a costume history) there has always been a place for a hat. It was the kind of an accessory every woman from a respectable class should have. Those hats were enormously beautiful but uncomfortable to wear. Then there was a time of Coco Chanel when she replaced hats with birds, fruits and flowers by the simple and chic hats which made women even more sophisticated. Even though there was a non-hat period in the 20th century, hats have been back again. Right now it’s difficult to say what kind of hat is fashionable – fruit-bird-like or simple and little, but we can say that hats are in fashion.

Fall 2009 season will be all about hats: little, big, black and screaming-bright, bandaids and hair accessory which replace the role of a hat. Almost all the designers made place for a hat in their collection. Even in haute couture collections:Chanel, Lacroix, Dior, Givenchy, etc. Though you’re not supposed to wear them in the street some women do.

Ready-to-wear collections will make you buy some of those lovely hats for sure – there’re many-many of them – and you can go for any kind you like from gloves-made Dolce&Gabbana to simple and round Chanel, or if you’re not a hat-type person you can check with some head accessories from Zac Posen, Louis Vuitton or Yves Saint Laurent. Armani also went for tiny hats which make one newly elegant.

It seems that time of birdy-fruit-like hats came back or at least that it’s time for extreme hats such as you can find at Dior or McQueen.

Whatever you will wear next season there should be place for at least one hat. You don’t have to be that McQueen extremal to wear a hat you may be that Lacroix simple, so go for it and the title of fashionista will be yours.

Shoes: turn your fantasy on!

September 9th, 2009 Daria 1 comment

“New season is all about shoes!” – that’s what my friend said the other day. Designers show us such a variety that even sophisticated shoe-lover will be satisfied. Forms and materials break all the rules – from simple high heel to complicated hells easily compared to art objects you can see in MoMA, from leather and suede to polymers and textiles. The only thing you need is to turn your fantasy on and your legs will be in the center of any party.

Rain is the worst that can happen to you in autumn. What can you do if you are wearing sandals? To avoid water in your shoes choose platform shoes.  There are hundreds of platform shoes and boots this season. You can find such at Chanel, Fendi, Prada, Dior, Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, and this is just little part of the list. Platform can be heavy or tiny and sophisticated.

Boots, shoes, ankle boots on a platform can be easily found in any designer collection this year.”Holland shoes” by Dolce&Gabbana and BCBG Max Azria, Burberry offers heavy platform, while Charles Anastase, Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci and Antonio Berardi their feminine variations.

Wedge-heeled shoes is the alternative to heavy platform shoes. Those shoes you can find at Chloe, Lacroix or  Chanel. You’ll look fashionable and modest.

Thigh-high boots is the absolute must-have this season. You can choose skinny ones as at Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli or shapeless as at  Chloe, Hermes, Costume National or Loewe. Karl Lagerfeld in his Fendi collection tricks fashion – instead of boots he has created shoes with a “stocking” to put on.

You can also choose simple heavy boots as in  Ann Demeulemeester, Hermes, Prada, Kenzo collections.

Ankle-boots will be fashionable as usual – suede platform boots, high-heel python boots, leather boots. You can pick any kind you like.

Some summer tendencies stay in our wardrobes even till winter. Shoes with many crossed lines as in collections by Derek Lam or Bottega Veneta. Shoes, sandals, boots. The alternative is lace. More laces is better. To add sme luxury xhoose shoes with diamonds ( Chloe, Blumarine), metallic elements or thorns (Givenchy).

Finally, “animal origins“.  Leopard colouring (Blumarine, Donna Karan, Dolce&Gabbana), python shoes (Dries van Noten), shoes decorated with fur (Miu Miu) and made in fur (Calvin Klein, Fendi).

Those shoes really can’t be day-to-day shoes, but they are amazing. Don’t forget to turn your fantasy on!

Sex and the City 2: Commerce

September 7th, 2009 Daria No comments

I started to think about product placement in Sex and the City after the 6th season of the series when suddenly Carrie being a non-birkin type and manolo blahnik girl started to wear Bikin bag and Christian Louboutin shoes.

sex-the-city-hermes-birkin-episode

That was continued in Sex and the City: The Movie. You remeber that little cute green Birkin and her countless Louboutins?

Than Chanel and Louis Vuitton product placement and some american designers products which were sold through the internet.

sex-and-the-city-movie-trailer2

More or less Patricia Field - Sex and the City stylist – had her stake in that, selling her products placed in the movie.

Now when the photos of making Sex and the City 2 just appeared in the internet we can see the huge commerce action created by Patricia Field around the clothes and accessories from the movie. The movie has not been even cut but she has already started to sell things from the movie. That is hillarious!

On this picture you can see aviator sunglasses which look fantastic indeed, but the thing is that they are just put their to sell. They are Mykita & Bernard Willhelm’s Franz Limited-Edition Aviator Sunglasses for $525 now on pre-sale at costume designer Patricia Field’s online shop. They will be shiped after September 17. What do you think about it?

This model, called Franz, is a limited edition and it was inspired by and named after legendary downhill champion Franz Klammer. The expensive but spartan design is a conscious reference to the past manufacturing methods.

Whatever the methods are you just can’t make the movie which is loved by millions of people all over the world for selling things and make fan-girls to buy Louboutins and your designs which honestly speaking are not that great and not of that great quality we can think they are.

Takashi Murakami creates plush toys for Louis Vuitton

September 5th, 2009 Daria 2 comments

Takashi Murakami collaboration with fashion house of Louis Vuitton lasts for many years and he has made plenty of bags and accessories, books and outstanding cartoons for LV.  His influence on the style of Louis Vuitton is unbelievable.

This year collaborations finds another way of expression which is totally Murakami’s style, but I doubt whether it is style of Louis Vuitton. Takashi Murakami has created Plush Panda figure for Louis Vuitton.

As Takashi Murakami says the Japanese will love it. I’m sure they will, but what about others? I think it’s cute though it’s not something associated with Louis Vuitton.

It exists in two sizes – the big one as a real toy and the little one for your mobile phone or bag.

It comes out with the certificate of authenticity and in a classical Louis Vuitton cotton-bag, but this time the bag is covered by Murakami’s paintings. The little one comes in a paper box and with metallic identity pendant.

Lindsay Lohan in Vogue Espana August 2009

September 5th, 2009 Daria No comments

‘m not a big fan of Lindsay Lohan, personally I don’t think she’s prettu enough to be a model, an actress in comedy movie – yes, model-no! But lately she became the face of Fornarina label and her fashion interest starts to grow or the interest of fashion to her. She appears on the cover of Spanish Vogue and I’m surprised but I liked it. Lohan looks amazing. Has Pascal Dangin worked on this photos or she has really changed her appearance that great?

In the new August issue of Spanish Vogue, Lindsay Lohan turns to Marylin Monroe with her blondy hair as it was decided by fashion-directors though to me she reminds more of Madonna latest looks specially wearing that Thieery Mugler and Louis Vuitton outfits.

She’s featuring pieces from many outstanding designers – Thierry Mugler, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Louis Vuitton and under garments by Agent Provocateur and this is only few of them. She’s wearing amazing heels and looks totally perfect.

The only thing which is not great is to be inspired by Monroe and to wear a dress with the face of Monroe. Typically put. Nevertheles this new Lohan is fab but for how long would her new look last..

Murakami’s Cartoon for Louis Vuitton

June 24th, 2009 Daria No comments

Another surreal cartoon about girl in dream world of Louis Vuitton is released this year. Looks like someone’s love for Louis Vuitton has no any borders :) Definitely LV – Takashi Murakami relations are special.

In September we’ll be pleased (I mean those whom LV bags and luggage have influenced to be LV-victim) by the book “Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion And Architecture” by Takashi Murakami.

Despite Murakami’s “multicolor” role (the collection of bags and accessories with milticolor monogram firts appeared in 2003) in creating image of Louis Vuitton, I prefer to be old-fashiond wearing accessories with classical monogram.

This amazing building is the result of Murakami’s influence. Lighting, amazing, but not usual Louis Vuitton building, that will always remind me of Asia :)
