Earlier this day I was going through AD campaigns SS 2010 season. Once again I caught myself staring at Gucci AD with Natasha Poly as I did a week before with their Cruise 2010 campaign also with Natasha Poly.
There is nothing wrong about Natasha, she’s stunning and Gucci made a perfect step forward making her the face of their ADs. Concerning the fact that she is one of top 10 models today (if not include iconic models such as Naomi), Gucci had the right pick.
Why was I staring at campaigns? It is only because of retouching with all my respect to such great people as Pascal Dangin (I actually doubt that he did this) Gucci SS 2010 AD is a retouching disaster. When almost the whole fashion world has finally realised the value of a real perfectly shot photo Gucci has decided to retouch a bit. A bit too much I would say. Fake sky and the sea, and even the water at the pool and Natsha with a polished skin.
When most of modern photographers prefer to make their shooting naturally and in some cases on films instead of digital cameras Mert Atlas & Marcus Pigott probably are not following photo classics. It seems that photos were made paused and with some unnecessary filters.
It’s all like too perfect too bad. Too much of retoucheee, Gucci!
When Katie Grand started to make the new magazine with a sensed name LOVE under patronage of Conde Nast everybody has already known that this magazine is going to be provocative, fresh new and very stylish. As the first issue ofLOVEwith naked Beth Ditto on the cover popped out almost everyone was shocked. Being a perfect stylist and trendhunter, I would say, Katie Grand knew exactly what public needs – some disproportional person on the cover to catch their eye. By disproportional I only mean Beth’s outstanding personality and her screaming music, that obviously not everyone will love to listen. But as we speak about LOVE’s love – Beth is one of the top beloved.
When the second issue covered with 13 years old blogger Tavi has appeared in the stores it was impressive, it was fashionable according to the last time attention to Tavi, but it was a bit weird to see on Katie’s cover someone who has already appeared on Dasha Zhukova’s POP magazine cover, the exact magazine Katie was editing before LOVE.
At some point it semed that Katie was just joking trying to make her first two issues as imressive as she could, but when the third issue with naked Lara Stone on the cover has appeared there were no doubt left that she wasn’t joking, she wasn’t even a bit of joking. She was that damn serious to shake the whole industry. She actually did.
LOVE is one of the most prominent magazines that Conde Nast publishes, oh, not just Conde Nast. It is one of the most prominent magazines in general. Speaking of creativity, I suppose that Grand will never rich that point when she can actually stop.
While she’s not stopping, I’m enjoying the whole beauty of LOVE.
Karl Lagerfeld always chooses the models himself. His models are never chosen by their popularity, they’re chosen by charm that only Karl can see. Of course Karl’s models always become famous afterall and what else can you expect? Karl has never made the wrong choice.
Some days ago I wondered whether Lara Stone can be as popular as for example Lagerfeld’s beloved Claudia while Claudia is still in fashion. I stand on my point that sha can’t but it’s quite obvious that Karl makes everything he can to make Lara the real star. Karl’s shootings with her are amazing. Look at the shooting for Numero magazine.
Actually it works out she is not only Karl’s model anymore, she’s also the new face for Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2010 AD campaign.
I’m not a big fan of glamour theme since it had acquired bad reputation. Of course as long as I can I’d stay within the group of people who do understand that glamour is about chic, beauty, style and fabulous feelings that you get when you come in to Prada or Dior boutiques. Unfortanutely it seems to be impossible as far as even fashion magazines start to make fun of the whole luxury and in the end glamour which is an obvious part of luxury industry.
Blaming myself for what I’m gonna tell write now but I do love these photos of Sasha Pivovarova for the italian magazine “Donna che amano” wearing outfits made of shopping bags.. Dior, Prada.. Hah, it’s quite outrageous linking to modern art and concepts of fashion being more urban, more borderless.
Still, I can’t take off the idea of fashion becoming a foie gras. What do I mean by saying such a thing is that producers of foie gras still do think they’re making an exclusive product while consumers do not even see any speciality in it, so retailers at some point start to lower the prices (of course there’re some types of foie gras that have always been very expensive and they still are) and more people can afford it. In the end you do get non-exclusive product, actually you get mass-product but at higher price than just liver in a supermarket.
A long thought, but that’s how I do think right now. At last, fashion was never about simplicity.
When someone speak of iconic models we usually think about Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista and so on. Today they are faces of AD camapaigns and runway models, but there are also new models who are as beautiful as Linda and Naomi, as hardworking and passionate.
The question is that they can’t be iconic while there are old camp models included. So their way to make a statement is to look like some other iconic persons, definately not models. So, they chose actresses, not intentionally, but their style start t look that way.
As the example Lara Stonelooking like young Catherine Deneuve and Edita Vilkevciutelooking like young Elizabeth Hurley. Lara nd Edita are young progressive models beloved by as many designers and photographers as Claudia and Linda. It’s a big question whom Karl Lagerfeld loves more, Claudia or Lara? But it’s obvious that even Karl’s love isn’t enough to become an icon.
Alice in Wonderland is one of the top fairy-tales themes often used by fashion photographers. This time I ran into Frauke Fischer “Alice im Wunder-Land” shoot for Diva magazine.
It’s bright and vivid but honestly it seems that photographer doesn’t realize the whole idea replacing magic miracles with huge trains and that’s it.
Maybe I sound a bit sceptical, but anyone who saw Annie Leibovitz shoot “Alice in Wonderland” for Vogue in 2003 will totally agree with me. No offence to Ida and she’s obviously not blamed for anything, but Natalia Vodianova in Alice shoot looks more like Alice than Ida does.
The fact of famous designers playing other Lewis Caroll characters (Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor&Rolf, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Olivier Theyskens, Marc Jacobs, Christian Lacroix, Donatella Versace, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Helmut Lang, Stephen Jones, Tom Ford) in Leibovitz shoot makes some benefit although the main point is to create an atmosphere which Leibovitz is unarguable master making of (refering to Louis Vuitton AD camapign, etc.).
The Wonderland atmosphere is so special for millions of girls who are already grown-ups and read fashion magazines that photographers and editors often take it to their editorials, but obviously as we become grown-ups most of us don’t catch the idea of magic anymore and Wonderland creation is possible for most creative of us.
One of my favorite magazines about fashion , art, photography and modern world of beautiful things is W. Why is that? First of all there are not so many magazines that can show us good photos made by the most brilliant photographers of our time together with professionally texts full of not only interesting information but that have their sense of a writing style. Second, whoever will say that it’s not true will be a real full, W magazine does influence modern trends and tendencies not only in fashion, but in art as well.
As I’m speaking about art in terms of W magazine, you can probably guess that the biggest issue not only for me but for many people reading W is W Art Issue which is a big deal. Every time the Art Issue stands for something and something always has to be an oustanding.
So, the new W Art Issue is not an exclusion. The idea developed by Maurizio Cattelan shows our reality from religious and public sides. The emotional part of photos turns any conduct to a rational sense away. It’s not only because of amazing Linda Evangelista, but because of serious theme put in unusual context.
The video below provides the information aboy the new Art Issue and shows the process of the shooting.
She’s been modeling over 20 years for now, and as soon as she realized that she doesn’t need even to look in a mirror to find out how her make-up looks like because she knows how it feels like on her, she wants others to feel her that way too.
Kate Moss, who has always been one of the most scandal, most outsatanding, beautiful and wanted models in the world at some point decided to become a part of inner luxury world, not just being a face showing luxury things to people. Deciding to make statement, to make others feel her the way she does herself and to become a part of innner world she signed license agreement with Coty (fragrance corporation that works with over 20 other famous labels) in 2007. If you want to understand Kate you have smell like Kate.
This year she launches her Vintage perfume that will be a part of chic, a part of modern girls and a part of Kate’s strong character. Same time it’s about Kate’s passion for vintage clothes which she’s been collecting since her teenage.
More or less Kate Moss became not only a brand name, but also an outstanding person who can really put together all her thoughts and ideas and come up with the real luxury product. That’s how it does really work. One day you appear on the AD boards in skinny jeans and nothing else, then you disappear for a while because of your drug addict and after all you’re taking your full success by coping with everything and starting to live a real grown-up life. Godd girl! What do I have to say more about Kate?
One of the most beloved Lagerfeld’s models Claudia Schiffer is making new Chanel ad campaign.
She’s been Chanel’s face in 2008 and she’s also was involved in many Lagerfeld’s shootings for Dom Perignon staring as sexy housekeeper. This time for Chanel she is playing some young latin girl in a big hat and school jacket.
To make an ad Lagerfeld and all his assistance went to Argantina. San-Telmo – a place for the shoot was chosen in the center of Buenos-Aires.
Claudia looks lie a very young lovely girl. I admire a lot her capability to make so different impression on the pictures.
The sexy English model Kate Moss is the icon for Yves Saint Laurent’s new fragrance Parisienne.
The commercial in black and white was just introduced in France by the famous maison and the claim, “living and loving, in the moment!”, reflects the romance and carpe diem spirit of Paris.
Kate Moss was the perfect muse to illustrate the message of the fragrance.
July, 17 rue Royale in Paris was crouded with photographers and gapers watching perfomance by Karl Lagerfeld with Lara Stone, Baptiste Giabiconi and motorcycle for Chanel.
The company was shooting press-kit for Chanel Starting Point collection.
Even more attraction than models and Karl Lagerfeld has got motorcycle made in Toulouse specially for Chanel.
Is a ride on Chanel motor will differ.. May be more fabulous one
Young british designer whose brand is known as “I Love Mel” creates Kate Moss and Agyness Deyn paper dolls, specially for fans. There are lots of fans of those supermodels and they will be lots of them who’d like to have models in paper
Each doll has its own wardrobe which is made according to the style of models in their real day-to-day life. So, you can mention that for Kate there are basically TOPSHOP t-shirts and dresses. Wardrobe contains 17 peices, so you can practice in the field of making styles
The price of one model-doll with wardrobe is 13.5 pounds, not so much to have your own Kate Moss, still she is in paper! Agyness looks more like herself while Kate doesn’t look similar to the real one.
Paper dolls are popular since 19th century and even after creation of Barbie people still use paper dolls. Isn’t it dull to play with paper dolls? It’s cool only if you’re going to do your own designs.. May be when you have Agyness or Kate doll it’s totally different, but I don’t wanna check this.
