I always admired this beautiful and clever woman with a degree in Political Sciences who had managed to turn her grandfather’s little business into a huge multi-million corporation. This woman is Miuccia Prada.
She is clever enough to separate politics from fashion and clever enough to combine them when needed. She is a sort of woman who can rule the world not directly but in her own wise way.
Miuccia once said:
“Fashion is an important part of a woman’s life. It’s a question of aesthetics and that is in no way stupid or superficial.”
This is the point. About women, fashion and how they do communicate. Fashion is clever, that’s why women reflect to it.
There’s been a while since my previous post here and there’s been a lot happening in fashion during my long winter holidays. SJP for Halston, new Spring-Summer AD campaigns, creative directors changing in some of the brands, Jimmy Choo collaboration with UGG Australia have been all talked about, so I decided to focus in this post on one collaboration which seems a bit of a fresh air, but at the same time takes a bit of the concern.
Emma worked with PT’s CEO Safia Minney and design team to create capsule lifestyle collection. As the result there is a beautiful range of jersey t-shirts, dresses, woven skirts, trousers, shorts and knitwear for both men and women. The ecological issue together with the poverty issue make all the campaign and collaboration important in a way. The collection is totally created from organic cotton and wool by Fair Trade groups by hand, using hand weaving, hand knitting and hand embroidery to create livelihoods for some of the most disadvantaged people in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
While journalist writing for site of Vogue Russia have their doubts why did Emma Watson decide to take her part in People Tree collection while she said earlier last year that she was not interested in designing her clothing line, there is an accurate explanation for this such as poverty issue and connection of fashion and social working. If fashion can help poor people than certainly other industries can make it too, here I do agree with Emma.
But here is the concern part. Whether Emma is going to be one of celebrities who make one appearance as a creative someone and than just forget about it, making it clear for themselves that they are not that creative, or she takes it seriously as her other beginnings in life such as Brown and we will see many outstanding and helpfull (which is sometimes more imposrtant) creations some time?
Some years ago it was a highly discussed issue when Carine Roitfeld the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris has made some photos for Purple magazine topless with a silk scarf covering her breast. There was nothing really provocative in those photos, sexy Carine, that’s it!
Now it’s turn of the russian Vogue editor-in-chief Aliona Doletskaya to take her clothes off. She’s been photographed for russian version of Black Square magazine. The first cover is Aliona with nothing left but jewellery and the second cover is a 13 years old model who reminds a bit of Tavi with a weird hat and ridiculous eyeglasses. Nice couple! Who has even decided to put them together?!
Aside form the “Tavi” issue, Doletskaya photos are fabulous although at some point you can’t really imagine her naked on the cover of a magazine.
The photos were made during Paris fashion week and they show Doletskaya in clothes and accessories of the most popular brands.
“Shoulda, woulda, coulda“… Do you remeber the SATC seria with such a title? I guess, you do. That’s the only thing I could think of, when I saw the first poster of Sex and the City 2.
Someone says that every season or movie more Carrie’s character becomes younger. Actually, I was thinking that it’s because she hasn’t been retouched for quite long time. She was retouched for almost every poster since 4th season of SATC series. But this poster left nothing of Sarah Jessica Parker or if you wish Carrie. It’s a total made-up computer character which reminds of a Carrie only because this outfit was hugely promoted some months ago, so everybody does remeber the Franz Limited-Edition Aviator Sunglasses, Louiboutin shiny hells and the Solange Azagury-Partridge necklace. In fact if there were no photos in this outfit bfeore I wouldn’t recognize SJP by chance.
Jennifer Lopez’s new song is named “Louboutins“. Lovely!
I don’t care what this song is about and whether many people like it or not. Hopefully now everybody will hear clearly how to spell the name of this great shoemaker.
Gianni celebrated their success and congratulated them.
But now they have forgot him.
Such observations become a big dissapontment. When you realize that even beautiful world of fashion can be disrespectdul to those who made a lot to the world of fashion, you’re afraid of what is going on to fashion.
I still do believe that there are people who do really love fashion and who will never forget genius of Gianni Versace.
He would turn 63 today, and obviously it would be a fabulous celebration full of celebrity guests coming on fancy cars and drinking champagne. Gianni Versace left too early and hadn’t done everything he could. During 20 years in fashion he became the imperor of the italian fashion and not only the italian. He was one of the most powerful designers of the 20th century and he still is.
I think that many people will share my love and respect to this outstanding man.
When someone speak of iconic models we usually think about Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista and so on. Today they are faces of AD camapaigns and runway models, but there are also new models who are as beautiful as Linda and Naomi, as hardworking and passionate.
The question is that they can’t be iconic while there are old camp models included. So their way to make a statement is to look like some other iconic persons, definately not models. So, they chose actresses, not intentionally, but their style start t look that way.
As the example Lara Stonelooking like young Catherine Deneuve and Edita Vilkevciutelooking like young Elizabeth Hurley. Lara nd Edita are young progressive models beloved by as many designers and photographers as Claudia and Linda. It’s a big question whom Karl Lagerfeld loves more, Claudia or Lara? But it’s obvious that even Karl’s love isn’t enough to become an icon.
Janet Jackson was the first woman on the stage dressing crazy, dancing extremely, singing too loudly for pop-music. Her time passed as she became non-fahionable, but her brother’s death this year has definately kicked her once again and she reappears fressh enough to hit those Latin girl singers and even Rihana. Who is named fashionable by mistake.
Janet’s new “Make me” video has some tips on Michael’s choreography and modern fashion. here is Michael once again – we all remember his fashion influence.
Architectural looks by Todd Lynn do no make any statement but they do say that Janet is back.
More or less but we have to count on her. Less snobism, more faith and she’ll work it out.
Scarlett Johansson is taking over Dolce&Gabbana fragrances The One, Rose The One and L’eau The One.
Together with new Rose The One fragrance, Scarlett collaborated on three campaigns with director Jean-Baptiste Mondino and designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
Compared to Dolce&Gabbana Cosmetics Ad campaign with Scarlett these video and shots look amazing, especially in classy The One video. She looks sexy, stylish and fresh. This is the actual Dolce&Gabbana style.
October, 22 at the charity event in San Francisco Charlize Theron kissed a girl. It was a part of charity auction held by the OneXOne Foundation that supports children in developing regions. Theron is already known to be a willing person to help, she regularly visits different regions in Africa to help people and to see the process of work.
To put aside all her charity openness.. Whether she was ready to kiss a girl? Or she coudn’t even think about it when she has risen the bidding from $37 000 to $140 000 for an extra item – her kiss?
Children are worth any money and little kiss if it can bring them lots of money is not a tragedy, but I really doubt that it was made just for charity reasons..
Usually such kind of project are being too short become kind of very expensive pr or something, while in this case it’s totally different. Mainly because DazedDigital has chosen already famous star who doesn’t need additional popularity, she’s got lots of fans worldwide not only because of her music which is fresh (specially considering her live concerts), but also because of her unrepeatable style. She is stylish.
The other reason of this project being more art than an ad is that you can see a high quality work of stylists, fashion consultants, director and photographers. While we can argue whether GaGa is a freek or stylish popular girl, we’d better watch beautiful video to find it out.
As the new Dolce&Gabbana ADs featuring Scarletts Johanson and David Gandy popped out I can barely understand whether the italian duet will ever make something special and fresh for their campains. First of all Scarlett looks like bouffet italian mummy rather than fabulous fresh woman whose appearance makes any impression of stunning fashionista. Secondly, David’s sun-tanned body looks weird together with way too pale Scarlett’s skin.
The light and composition look wonderful but that is only due to Solve Sundsbo and his amazing photographer work, while the whole idea of an AD-print is so familiar and boring that it seems Dolce&Gabbana are stucked with sweety hotness. Hotness has too many ways to be shown by, so guys, work on it!
When one thinks celebrities can look fabulous whenever they want thanks to their stylists and shopping opportunities. The also can get any outfit they want, designers are willing to send those to celebrities before anyone can even dream about having new season dress or shoes.
Unfortunately, for some celebrities even fashion can not work. They style look like the disording attempt to impress the press while the press makes rhumors about their messy look. When I write this I think about Rihanna, who lately has achieved the entrance to any fashion show and can get any outfit. Still even Chanel suits don’t make her stylish.
More modesty, less show-offs and it will make sense, while at the moment she makes to feel worse about Chanel, not the opposite.
